Course Description: 
This course teaches advanced topics in Solaris system administration. The operating system will be Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8)- Sun's implementation of SystemV release4. The course is taught on a Sun Ultra system.

   This course meets all of the objectives for the Certified Solaris 8 System Administrator Examination – Part 2 (310-012).

         Note: This course is also available for Solaris 9, 7, and Solaris 2.6

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Understand the client server relationship
  • Install and configure a Solaris server
  • The Solaris network environment
  • Setup event logging, configure syslog, and use auditing utilities
  • Install and manage serial devices such as modems and terminals
  • Support the installation of devices using Service Access Facility
  • Administer disks and file systems
  • Pseudo file systems and swap space
  • Configure files and use commands to control and monitor hosts in a networked environment
  • Configure and use NFS
  • Configure and use AutoFS
  • Set up and configure CacheFS file systems
  • Configure WebNFS
  • Setup Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
  • Use and configure the Solaris Management Console and Solaris AdminSuite
  • Describe the Solaris naming services: DNS, NIS, NIS+, and FNS and configure name server clients
  • Configure and administer the NIS environment
  • Add network clients and AutoClient support to a server
  • Use JumpStart to automate Solaris installations
  • Use tools to monitor system and network performance
  • Administration and Configuration of the CDE
