 Network Administration for the Solaris 9 Operating System

Course Description: 
This course teaches advanced topics in Solaris system administration. The operating system will be Solaris 9 (SunOS 5.9)- Sun's implementation of SystemV release4. The course is taught on a Sun Ultra system.

   This course meets all of the objectives for the Certified Solaris Network Administrator Examination (310-044).

Prerequisite: Solaris 9 Intermediate System Administration
The student should have taken a Solaris administration course or have equivalent experience administering a Sun Solaris system. The student should also be knowledgeable of system run levels and editing system configuration files.

Recommendation Statement:
This course teaches basic topics in Solaris Network Administration. The operating system will be Solaris 9 (SunOS 5.9) - Sun's implementation of SystemV release 4. The course is taught on a Sun Ultra System. The objective is to prepare the student for administering a Solaris 9 system in a networked environment.

  • Configure routing and routing tables
  • Configure subnet masks, including variable length masks
  • Configure DHCP clients and servers
  • Configure DNS
  • Configure a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server and client
  • Configure a system as an IPv6 host or router
  • Configure IPv6-over-IPv4 tunnels
  • Troubleshoot network problems

  • Describe network basics
  • Describe remote administration with the Solaris Management Console software
  • Manage virtual file systems and core dumps
  • Manage storage volumes
  • Control access and configure system messaging
  • Configure role-based access control (RBAC)
  • Set up name services
  • Perform advanced installation procedures
  • Configure the custom JumpStart procedure
  • Perform a Flash installation
